Music Analysis
Stepping Stones- This song is 9 minutes long and there is some speaking at the very end because apparently the song was recorded live. This song is a bit more upbeat and 'fun' than the other two songs in store for you. Depending on your personality, this song could make you want to dance spontaneously with someone, nod your head to the rhythm and maybe tap your toe in beat, or make you close your eyes and imagine various colors swishing and swashing around to the music. This song was alright, released in the late 1970s, it could have been reaction to any event from then. It maybe served as a kind of 'cheer-up' to the people.
Red Clay- This song is 12 minutes long and is all instrumental. Probably the hardest to listen to because it's so long and I crave variety. A lot of songs from the 1970s were longer than the unspoken standard of 3-4 minutes. This possibly represented some kind of 'stick-it-to-the-man' feelings because of the fact that the songs are longer than standard. Wasn't this the time period of hippies? This song, like other jazz songs, is relatively calming and quiet, it isn't very loud, which is nice for people with anxiety. MAYBE THAT'S WHY IT'S QUIET! BECAUSE THE PEOPLE FROM THE 1970S WERE ANXIOUS BECAUSE OF ALL THE WARS AND DILEMMAS IN THE WORLD, SO THEY USED THIS MUSIC TO CALM DOWN.
Birdland- This song is 7 minutes long. It sounds like it could be the track played at the beginning of a family friendly television show about life, like Full House. For the most part, the song makes me feel content, but not too happy. As if it's meant to just shift your attention away from bad thoughts LIKE THE WARS AND CRISIS FROM THE 1970S, which is probably why this kind of jazz evolved from the original jazz; to be less about expressing feelings and emotions, and to be more about getting your mind off of certain feelings and emotions. Well, that's what I get from this song, anyway.
